GPS tracks of red-billed tropicbirds (Phaethon aethereus) during August to November 2013-2017 breeding seasons

The dataset is a series of csv files from retrieved GPS loggers deployed on breeding red-billed tropicbirds (Phaethon aethereus) from mainland St Helena between August and November 2013-2017. Csv files contain the location (lat/long) of the bird as it travels out to sea to forage whilst the partner is incubating or chick guarding on the nest.

Lineage Incubating and chick rearing adult red-billed tropicbirds (Phaethon aethereus) were tracked with GPS loggers (iGot-U GT-120, Mobile Action Technology) attached to the base of three or four central tail feathers using tesa tape. 199 loggers were deployed and programmed to take a GPS fix of the birds location every 10 minutes if incubating and every 5 minutes if rearing a chick. 146 retrieved loggers were downloaded using @trip software. The raw data is held with EMD and copies are held at the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). Metadata on deployments and retirevals are held in the seabird tracking database with EMD and RSPB. Tracks are archived on Movebank (St Helena seabirds) as well as Birdlife International Seabird Tracking Database.
