Aerial Photographs of Saint Helena

Thirteen aerial photographs cover the island of Saint Helena with approximate 3m pixels. They were taken in 1990 by source unknown and acquired from Saint Helena Public Works. The aerial photographs are split in sheets, each one with a number and the name of the main location. 110 Head o'Wain, Horse Pasture and Upper Lemon Valley; 114 Blue Hills, Thompson's Wood, Manati Bay; 38 Shark's Valley; 42 Prosperous Bay Plain; 48 Alarm Forest and Francis Plain; 52 Jamestown and Half Tree Hollow; 53 Rupert's Bay, Sugar Loaf and James Bay; 82 Levelwood, Stone Top Ridge and Deep Valley; 86 Level Wood, Beales Valley and Rose Hill; 90 Longwood and Deadwood Plain; 94 Flagstaff Bay and Hill, The Barn and Knotty Ridge; Fisher's valley. The georeferencing is believed to be based on the incorrect Ordnance Survey maps of 1989 and is quite inaccurate in places. This dataset could do with improved georeferencing. UPDATE 07/04/15: It is now believed that these photographs may have been taken in 1988 as part of the 1990 Ordnance Survey Map update project; black & white, infra-red and true colour images were taken by the RAF, flown in a Canberra, and used for land use mapping and island mapping. The details were provided by former SHG employee Ian Mathieson. These original images are currently lost.
